Asbestos I.D/Counting

We offer the full range of Meiji Techno asbestos microscopes for both Bulk Fiber Identification by polarized light microscopy (PLM) and Asbestos Fiber Counting by phase contrast microscopy (PCM).

Bulk Fiber Identification: You will need the Meiji Techno ML 6100 series that is available in monocular (ML6100), binocular (ML6120) or trinocular (ML6130). All three microscopes are approved under NIOSH: 9002. PLM analysis measures the percentage of asbestos in bulk samples as perceived by the analyst against standard projections, photographs or experience. As a result, results are dependent on the skill, judgment and experience of the analyst.

Asbestos Fiber Counting: You will need the Meiji Techno ML6500 series PCM microscopes that are also available in the three different configurations - monocular (ML6510) binocular (ML6520) or trinocular. All three PCM microscopes are approved under NIOSH: 7400 and OSHA ID 160 reference methods. PCM analysis offers a quick and effective on-site determination of concentration of asbestos fibers in the air. Since it does not differentiate between asbestos and other fibers, positive I.D of asbestos fiber requires PLM or electron microscopy.
