Usborne's The World of the Microscope  is, in our opinion, a wonderful and colorful introduction to microscopy. Practical, clearly worded and illustrated, it provides numerous experiments and activities that range from simple to more complex. While many assume the book is aimed at children, we have found it to be an useful primer for both young and old alike.

The book has hundreds of stimulating experiments that can be conducted in the home using everyday items such as onions, corks, bugs and leaves among many other easily obtainable specimens from both land and sea. A plethora of color illustrations are not only educational, but also provide step-by-step guidance on the respective experiments.
