The Dino-Lite AM2011 is the entry-level model of Dino-Lite handheld digital microscopes. It is the only brand to include both PC and Macintosh software with higher quality design and performance. The only difference between more powerful versions are the 640x480 resolution and four LED lights as opposed to 8 on other models. See Dino-Lite product line.

The AM2011 houses a 0.3 megapixel digital camera and offers 10x-230x magnification at 640x480 resolution. It contains 4 always-on LED lights and provides live imaging via the included DinoCapture software. If more illumination is required, we recommend upgrading to the AM3011 with 8 LED lights or the AM3011T with 8 LED lights and Microtouch technology which allows instant capture of photos and video by simply touching the top of the unit.

Software

The AM2011 comes with the full version of DinoCapture software (Windows) or DinoXcope (Mac) which lets you capture an image, video or time-lapse video for annotation and editing. When finished, you can save and share files in BMP, TIF, PNG, TIF and JPEG formats.

For Mac Users

For Mac users, DinoXcope offers the ability to save files in PNG, JPEC and MOV file formats. Software updates and improvements are also available at no cost from our website. Note: DinoXscope requires Mac OS 10.5 Leopard or higher.

Resolution and Focus

In our opinion a key feature is the excellent color resolution which is unparalleled at this price point. It is better than most, more expensive digital microscopes and is achieved by use of a sophisticated  jeweler's color balance.

The focus mechanism is intriguing. With the microscope placed directly on a specimen, the Dino-Lite focuses at 50x or with a spin of the convenient thumb dial, at 200x. You can vary the magnification by raising the microscope to different heights above the specimen.

Applications

Recommended applications include: PCB inspection, coin and stamp collecting, plant dissection, education, calligraphy, all kinds of collections and – well, plain fun such as inspecting hair follicles or nostrils at home!
