Motic B1-220/223 Educational Compound Microscope

Summary

The Motic B1 Series is designed for high school students and light-duty laboratory applications, with large, easy-to-operate focus knobs and stage controls. The widefield eyepieces are more forgiving of a student's head and eye movement. It features a fully rotating, 45 degree-inclined binocular viewing head with 10X widefield eyepieces, 53mm to 72mm of interpupillary adjustment and individual diopter adjustment for each ocular tube. Designed around a forward-facing quadruple nose piece, the B1 offers a choice of binocular or trinocular configuration with either Achromatic or Super Contrast objective lenses.

Optics

The standard achromatic objectives (10x, 40xS, 100xS Oil) also include 1 Plan Achromatic objective (4x). Optional Super Contrast objectives (ASC 4x, 10x, 40xS, 100xS oil), are bonded with contrast-enhancing coatings to produce especially sharp images for Life Science applications. Magnification levels include 40x, 100x, 400x and 1,000x.

Stage & Focus

A large double-layered mechanical stage features a spring-loaded slide clamp with dropdown coaxial controls for convenient 'eyes down' operation. The stage range of movement is 70mm x 30mm. Focusing includes rack and pinion mechanics for longer life and coaxial coarse/fine focus controls for easier operation. The fine focus scale value is 0.002mm.

The bilateral focus control features finger touch adjustment while the dimmer switch is conveniently located immediately under the right side stage control. Both controls can be operated during 'eyes down' observation. Safety features include a rack stop to ensure that the stage does not impact with the objectives and thereby break the slides, and a slip clutch control to minimize the risk of damage due to over extension. The condenser is a professional focusable Abbe 1.25 NA with iris diaphragm and filter for optimal adjustments. High-quality Koehler illumination is powered by 12V 20W halogen with variable intensity.
